Teachers at dinner?

I was talking to Mrs. Haynes this morning and she commented how she would really like see all of us this summer. What do you guys think of asking the teachers to join us for our dinner? These would include Mr. & Mrs. Haynes, Ririe, Lowry, Pilling, Blackmer, Rollingson, Rasmussen, Taylor, West, Malmberg(Ririe). Mr. Simon is teaching band again and I know he would love to see his old band students. He still tells stories of Kent & Dave. I think that Mr. Emerson is still local and would probably like to come. (Remember him Teresa?) Let me know what you think. Maryse

I have mixed feelings about the teachers. It would be nice to see them, but it would still change the style of communication and comfort level. Not saying that it wouldn't be enjoyable, because it would, but is that the direction we want the night to go. Or, would the teachers in general really enjoy the night or just feel a level of obligation to attend and be congenial. Having said that, I think it would be nice to bump into the teachers during the celebration week-end that magrath will be hosting and catch up with them individually. So my vote is no teachers at the dinner, but will of course support the democratic results.

I also have mixed feelings about others attending that are not in our grade. I hung out with mostly people not in our grade and would very much enjoy the visit and catching up with old times, but I also think it would take away from our reunion. I mean that I might feel more comfortable just hanging with old friends that came not of our grade and miss the great opportunity of getting to know all of you all over again. This would take more social effort to get to know all of us again, but worth it and I think a big part of our goal at this reunion. So I would also suggest seeing old friends not of our grade during the celebrations. My vote is also no non 87 grad friends at the main reunion events.

Now I intend on hooking up with old non 87 grad buddies while I'm down, and I've already been to magrath several times and hooked up with a few of them, I think that is totally a separate event than a 87 grad reunion. Anyway, enough chat from me. I will of course still attend the reunion no matter what decisions are made and enjoy it!!

I think having teachers come by for the picnic on Saturday would be the best. Then we could hang out and chat. The Friday night would be our evening. Exclusive VIP. The rest could be open. As far as having others attend. I have not heard about anyone yet, so it looks like it's not such a big deal.

I do feel a certain sense of biterness to Ms. Haynes because she would not let me enroll in Home Ec.

I wanted to cook and design clothes. Not flirt with chicks and create trouble.

OK... maybe the flirt thing was true but I did want to do the other stuff.

I think about that now and it was blatant sexual discrimination.

whaaaaaaa... I was discriminated against... whaaaaaaa

I second Rich's comments. BYW Maryse & Teresa, I have seen Mr. E a couple of times - teaches at LCI and coaches the girl's track team. Looks the same.

I too agree with Rich on both counts, however, Dave's suggestion of inviting the teachers, who'd like to attend, to the pinic is a good solution.

I too agree with Rich. Also Dave, my exact thoughts about having the teachers drop in on the picnic on Sat.

I also wanted to take home economics....I really wanted to learn how to cook cool things. In fact boys before and after our grade were allowed in the class. I too was told I wasn't allowed to take the class. I suppose they thought I also had other reasons in mind for taking the class.

I was very disappointed :(

I would love to see the teachers, we forgot about Mr. Blackmer. Have we decided on where we are having the picnic on Saturday? My place is aways open. Feel free to us it or not. Makes no difference one way or the other to me.

I have also seen Mr. Emerson lots. Everytime I enter a 5 or 10 km road race he is in it. I think he looks totally different from High School. He is super skinny now. He is a super competive runner. He is still awesome. Mr. West moved to Edmonton, so we would have to give him ample notice.

Well there are my comments.

I will echo some of the previous comments. It would be great to see some of the teachers, but I think that the picnic setting would be best and keep the Friday night dinner just for the students.

Ditto to all - except for the part about Magrathites. I think Del Bonita has just as much say. :)

If anyone offers to have a picnic -I say great. One suggestion was to just have an informal-bring your own lunch-meet behind the school on the playground-after the parade-with your family-kind of picnic. This would be easy; no stress for anyone. And people could come and go as they pleased. Parents & teachers could mosey by and visit, kids could participate in the town festivities. There are many concessions selling food, as well. And one could always make a quick run up to Lila's - is that still there? Just to throw that idea into the picnic mix!

However, if someone offered their place - that would be fantastic. I wish I could offer to be of help, but I don't think I'll get there before Thursday evening and any help I could actually give would be of the cream-puff variety.

Sorry to be objectionable, I vote for going to Angie's, it's nicer to be at someone's house. Are you up for this Angie? Potluck all the way of course, invite teachers if you would like.
